since there's quite a lot of talk amongst us on this guy thought we should start up a thread.

Although he has produced some amazing albums China, Spiral, Albedo, Bladerunner to name a few, later soundtrack work doesn't do anything for me at all, but like TD I have amased a good collection of CDs and aren't going to stop.

I still like La fete Sauvage Tim for it's experimentation, the film which I got to see at the time was brilliant as are IMHO most of the Vangelis/Rossif collaborations. The chap I'll be seeing soon to hopefully to point us in the right direction re: TD docu film etc was interested in trying to get the film itself restored (its stuck in a storeroom in a Paris based film company) so would imagine its quite degarded by now. On the subject of Film work I think Antarctica is outstanding (this you can now get on DVD)and well worth a look at. Disney did a remake of the same film recently, so avoid at all costs

I love this guys music..faves being . Antactica, Bladerunner, China, Opera Sauvage, Heaven & Hell, Spiral, & Conquest of Paradise. I like some of his more recent stuff. The Alexander album although not great has a few excellent moments.

I am not keen on Conquest Of Paradise but apart from that album I have liked most of his stuff although I must say I have never been much of a fan of Jon Andersons voice although it does seem to fit in well with the music.

I love Voices and would actually say its my favorite Vangelis album, the music just has so much depth to it....fantastic.

never knew that. You don`t get to hear much about the man...isn`t he a recluse?

He's a recluse in so much as his music comes first and foremost and is not enamoured by the industry and the publicity circus so in that sense he's a very private individual. He was also never keen on flying from what I recall, I think one of his film soundtracks (old age setting in here  ) was recorded on a ocean liner trip of some description and fed back to land via telecommunications system of the day

I love all of Vangelis's stuff up until 1990 and then it's all bland psuedo-classical tosh with huge-reverbbbbbbbbbbbb (IMHO ;))...and about as memorable as Chris Franke's Hollywood scores.

My favourite Vangelis is this one:

Lovely pop tune on 7"

I used to own Reprise 1990-1999 and I own the Albedo 0.39 LP, and I must say that he gives me headaches!!
