Quite conflicted about this. There's no doubting the talent in the current line-up all of whom had EF's blessing. Butlins obviously has comedy associations - knobbly knees competitions etc and a far cry from the many notable venues of days gone.
Is it just the line up? Bleedin Jarre and Kraftwerk still pull but not TD. TQ gave me a double take at the Phaedra 35th gig - over a decade ago. Fitted right in and performed so confidently. Wow. Not really enjoyed US's work so much. HY I like, solo stuff too.
OF COURSE all bands evolve. And time is cruel.
I think the main wound for me is seeing the band that is my musical core in a casual line up with other artists loosely associated with them in whom I have no interest whatsoever. I'm an atheist but it's like going to a spiritual weekender with teachings from the Bible, Quran, Vedas, Das Kapital and "Eat, Pray, Love" when you're 100% dedicated to one of those visions.
I'm rabling. I miss EF. I miss "Tangerine Dream" 80s soundtracks, and 90s Harpsiklang the lot.
I miss waiting for the next studio release knowing it will be in a new style, one I may not get straight off, but in which I can trust to be worth the wait.
Booked up over a week ago. A mate of mine went to one of these music events, (not electronic), at Butlins, Bognor Regis, and said it was absolutely brilliant. Much like all the top progrock bands are now playing cruise ships, I guess this is what to expect in the future. Note. TD are listed as playing, but, this is not yet confirmed AFAIK
Yes, have not seen any official confirmation as yet. I am hoping they will do another UK gig before that but if not, I will see if I can get to this one.
really!!!! like thomas said earlier, is it april fools day, 'tangerine dream' playing at a holiday camp with a couple of 80's has beens, oh dear
what is going to happen the morning of the concert, look out the window of our room/chalet and watch 'barbara windsor' (bless her) doing her keep
fit, "AND FLING" dodge the bikini top, have a couple of games of 'bingo', have lunch, then spend the rest of the afternoon trying to get a teddy bear
or a minion out of a large glass case with a dodgy metal claw, watch 'TD' and go home, all for £175.00 quid (that is the cheapest price we can see)
don't think so.
we would have no interest in the rest of the acts (there are more synthesiser's on the last 'peatbog faeries' cd than there is on a 'howard jones' track)
p.s. checkout the 'peatbog faeries they are brilliant,
we will live with our memories of the last time we saw 'TD' at the mighty 'royal albert hall' in 2010, a proper fitting venue for ther music, not a holiday camp.
we realise it is not confirmed by'TD' yet but would it not be better to do some just 'TD' concerts in the uk just for us followers of 'TD'
Tangerine Dream don't realise that Butlins is a of a laughing stock with the general public and not to be associated with 'class acts' ....only acts who are no longer fresh but those trying to re-live past glories! Will not do ANYTHING for their image!
That must also apply to 'top' bands who now perform on cruise ships. TD's next gig is the AC Hall, in Hong Kong. That's a 1,300 seat 'medium' size venue. Let's just see if it sells out, before the gig.
I used to always go to butlins as a kid, now having kids myself I decided to go back last year. I must say its a nice holiday. its not exactly cheap and cheerful anymore. if fact our 5 days trip last year cost £1,600 which would have paid for a break away somewhere like in Malta or Spain.
The days of knobbly knees and all that bollox is long gone, they have a good arcade if your a gamer, a decent fair for younger kids, decent night time entertainment and the food is really outstanding these days. lots of choice and nice quality.
I like the idea of this gig if TD do get confirmed. the other acts I would watch purely as a nostalgia, a ride back to my childhood. Don't knock the idea, three days of sun, beer, good food and music sounds very tempting to me.
I am considering going. But no new acts have been confirmed on the festival website. Hard to get real info. Would be nice if the TD management could soon confirm this concert. Would make it possible to plan some arrangements for this trip.
