Only just found out about this
Great shame - he was an excellent horror writer - one of my favourite authors. Rats and The Fog were amongst the first horror books I read.

Probably my favorite writer .... had to be up there with the very best of fictional horror writer's IMO. RIP JH

I read the Rats as a spotty 13 year old and found it shocking and I loved it..read most of his books my fave being one of his later ones Others. He was only 69 and it's very sad he has gone.
