Electronic Music

Post by cantosis »

Its been a while since I was heavily into the electronic music scene and I was just wondering is there anything new around that I should check out???

When I last into it bigtime Derby seemed to be the place to be for Electronic music in the UK with Andy Pickford bringing out some decent stuff(Maelstorm<sp>) comes to mind, I used to get all my stuff from a nice guy called Les May from Midas Records(it all seems dead in derby now :)

I recently got the new Jarre album, couple of not good tracks at the start but it gets better....wonder if he is planning to tour. last saw him in 97 at Wembley, never been a massive fan but he does put ona good show.

What other stuff are you into? I guess it'll then be easier recommending stuff.

I'm tempted to say Ulrich Schnauss's A Strangely Isolated Place....but then again I recommend that to everyone :D, IMHO this is the best EM record of the last 10 years

ps. I used to get stuff off Les, he used to sail very close to the wind with TD, but that's another story :D

I've found this site a great way to try music before I buy:

In fact, this is the right section for your topic as the music section is TD music.
I used to get my stuff from Midas aswell. I guess he's not in the business anymore.
Seeing that you like TD and JMJ, other EM that I strongly recommend is Jonn Serrie http://www.vipinfo.com/jonn/ for relaxing stargazing music and Optical Image (Tom Habes) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =131234728 for dynamic, rhythemic and melodic Berlin School of the 90's.

If you're after Jarre-like artists, then try the 'similar artists' link of the Jarre page on last.fm:

Yeh life is quite stressfull at the moment so I might try out John Serrie as I need some chiil out music. My favorite alltime album is 76:14 By Global Communication even when I stepped away from E Music for a while that CD always found its way onto my player. To me its just a perfect album, a classic. I don`t think I will ever get bored with it.

I think they also pay homage to TD as there is a bit of "Love On A Real Train" on it which is actually my fave TD song so I can`t fault anything with that album.

I use Amazon.co.uk http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h ... onn+serrie and I use Amazon.com to compare prices and listen to the samples there http://www.amazon.com/Jonn-Serrie/artist/B000AQ3O84

76:14? top record!!!!!! You'd probably like Ulrich Schnauss's stuff then, or perhaps Pete Namlook's stuff on the FAX label, especially Dark side of the Moog parts 5 and 7 wih Klaus Schulze.

I neearly forgot...I'd really recommend the artist Spyra, I've found all of stuff great, either solo (on the FAX label) or with Pete Namlook
