Looking Back: UNDERWATER SUNLIGHT

Post by timer »

What an absolutely wonderfull release this is.

I remember purchasing this in Tower records shortly after release on vinyl , and seeing the back cover with a new member ,PH. On first listen I was hooked from Song of Whale to Underwater Twilight , this held my attention through its entiriety , and still does today.

A top release 8) 8) 8)

In the days before I could drive, I cycled 20 miles to get US on vinyl. I was a bit disappointed at first because I was expecting to hear all of the unreleased music from the 86 tour. But the album soon grew on me and Song Part 1 is one of my all time TD favs.

My all time favourite TD album..it has everything..well composed and all in all exceptional playing throughout. Song Of The Whale Pt. 1 & 2 is IMO the best 20 minutes TD has ever done. Then side 2 kicks off with the up tempo and downright dancey Dolphin Dance..a flawless LP. 8) 8) 8) :D

This is an important TD album for me.

I had Phaedra to Tangram. Thereafter, sort of lost out on the rest of TD output due to various reasons including , women, football, bairns, shitey all consuming stressful job

In about 1990 I saw Underwater Sunlight in a high street store, bought it and was so pleased to find TD were still magnificent :D

This also happened with Turn of the Tides some years later.

Both albums kept TD alive with me.

EDIT I was meant to be doing my looking back in order........think I was up to ATEM, (couldn't resist the charms of Underwater Sunlight though) better get my finger out :D

Remarkable : The mid 80's was a lost void for me too.
The same distractions caused that white noise of social interference.

A late discovery for me once CD's where invented.

US filled that gap.

Nice!

Song of the Whale 1&2. Simply some of the best music ever recorded. I can't add any more to that statement really
