There is no way you can judge his career by listening to one album. Beyond Recall was my first purchase of KS, and still one of my favourites. But you know, this is from his sampling era, so to speak. And that is not for everyone. Personally I love it, but albums like Timewind, Mirage or X from the 70's or albums like Inter*Face and Audentity from the 80's or the more recent Moonlake and Kontinuum from the 2000's may be more to your taste. I have always been fascinated with the small details and minimal changes in music. The changes are there, but they are often extremely subtle during a 20, 30, 40 or for that matter, 70 minute piece.
