Like heresy I know, but I can't seem to find the date listed when TD bought their Moog Modular. I would like to have the exact date because a popular modular synthesizer manufacturer is making a calendar and wants historic dates to list. In my opinion TD's purchase of the Moog modular was a music industry changing event.
Anyone know when it was?

PS the manufacturer is Arrick (synthesizers.com)
Two glasses Australian Shiraz, roaring fireplace, my Linda in arms and Rubycon on the player = BLISS

in 1973...um 2-6 weeks before they recorded Pheadra...I seem to remember it was bought a bit at a time
Edgar-"The Rolling Stones had purchased a massive modular system from Moog in 1969 (Several members of the group had them infact, as odd as that might sound). Mick Jagger tried for a long time to produce a few particular sounds with it but had no luck and eventually wanted to sell the machine. Of course, when we heard it was available we were very excited and took immediate steps to get it. The system was composed of several large units and we purchased it piece by piece over a peroid of time. We had the whole machine only shortly before we began recording Phaedra and went into the studio without having used it beforehand. Luckily, and here's something I've never admitted to anyone, luckily we managed to hook up the machine more or less correctly without knowing how to at all. We connected the wires between the various components, the sequencer, oscillator, filter and so forth, using pure guesswork. So much of what you hear on Phaedra was accidental".
* It also appears in a movie Jagger starred in, called 'Performance'. Rumour has it he was given lessons on how to use it for 5 weeks
** It was probably autumn 1968, at that time it cost $11,000, TD later bought it for DM800,000
I was reading in a Sound On Sound article about the November 1973 date, but there doesn't seem to be a hard date for the Moog purchase during the Phaedra session. I think the month and year may be enough. According to SOS interview Franke practiced on the moog at a music shop before taking possession of the Rolling Stones' modular. They also bought the Moody Blue's modular for the second one Edgar used (if I read it right).
The sequential parts in Phaedra coming out of the big Moog is the very reason for why I still play electronic music. There was something spiritual there that made a connection for me unlike other aspects of music.

No problem David. I just hope the text is 'more' accurate than the photo credits...nearly every one is wrong.
Phaedra was recorded in December of 1973, whilst in October TD were still tied up in the court case with OHR records (my press cutting said they had won the first round on the 9th)...so, perhaps november or late october looks good?.
Edgar?
the Moog? not long after that (74-75) TD developed their first digital Oscillator, so it's much rarer album than people think, ie an untouched Moog...after that TD had almost everything altered

Jordan Rudess has got one of those. It makes an appearance on one of their concert DVDs, "Score" I think, and it's a real monster of a synth. Sadly he doesn't use it as was intended but instead uses it to play a solo that could have been played on any one of a number of synths. Bit of a waste really.
there's quite a few videos of moog modulars/sequencers being wasted on you toob........these PROVE that TD were the masters at control of the modular system......MASTERS
