Johannes Schmoelling & T. Lavitz?

Post by 24db »

Johannes Schmoelling, who was a member of Tangerine Dream from 1980 through 1986, has just released his first solo project. The record, titled Wuivend Riet, has just hit the record stores in Germany. The title song was written for the Hans Bosch play Opus ESP, which premiered last year in Amsterdam. The record is available in the U.S. from Important Record Distributors (149-03 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., Jamaica, NY 13434). Schmoelling's studio centers around a Soundcraft 160032x8 console, and a 24-track MCI. A Sony PCM adapter connected to a VHS video recorder is used for mastering. Sequencers also play a major role in Schmoelling's music. He uses the EEH CM4, a CV-sequencer specially designed for Tangerine Dream, along with a Roland MSQ-700. A Commodore 64 with a Steinberg Pro-16 sequencer and graphic editor are at the heart of his MIDI setup, which also includes a Yamaha DX7, Roland Jupiter-8, Roland Super Jupiter, OSCar, MIDIed Minimoog, Dr. Boehm Expander, PPG Waveterm B connected to a PPG 2.3, Akai 5612 sampler, Roland TR-808, E-mu SP12, and Sequential Drumtrax. Schmoelling will be keeping busy next year with several different film scores and other projects. For example, he and T Lavitz will be getting together on Lavitz' next trip to Germany; the possibilities of their collaboration are something to look forward to.
