my feeling is that the UCLA gig will be a testing the water gig, followed by the tour in early 2009....Japan will be included so Tangs can play the entire Atomic seasons series....so 2009 may well be even more expensive for the TD fan than 2007 and 8 combined

I'm thinking their stop in L.A. only exists because they've got business in that neck of the woods and they figure they may as well put on a gig while there.
OR They were simply hired by the school for a one-off (ala. the Japanese business man and the mighty Nagasaki series.)
