The book is also well worth a read.

I'm currently in that mode, book-wise, having just completed Downfall, Berlin (The Anthony Beevor tome), & am midway through Stalingrad (Also Beevor), & have the diaries of Valery Grossman waiting in the wings.

It's said his love for his dogs stemmed from their total obedience & loyalty, something he eventually discovered he didn't have from his beloved German people. Unfortunately he didn't realise it a lot sooner. He might not have waited so long to blow his brains out.

He tested the cyanide capsules on his dogs, though, so even they didn't have his love, in the end.

I am not a great Bond lover but I took my son to see Casino Royale last week, I was very impressed by the film and the new Bond it was certainly a bit different to the other films.

Yes he was good, just cannot remember his name at the moment

Saw Casino Royale a few weeks ago. Must say it was pretty good. The Bond franchise had become a parody of itself in recent years, and a reimagining of the series was needed. The tone was a bit darker, but it worked. I think Daniel Craig makes a fine 007. I look forward to his next outing as the British agent.

Yesterday i saw the film 'The Departed' by Martin Scorsese.
Superb acting on top of brilliant storytelling IMHO.

We got the family several DVDs for Christmas.

Cars: It's growing on me more since I saw it at the theater. Overall, it's not bad, and it's kinda cool looking for all the car references in the background art.

Monster House: An OK movie, but not worth repeated viewings IMHO. The house is truly creepy-looking, though.

Over the Hedge: Hilarious. Especially Hammy, the hyperactive squirrel. Lots of funny gags. Will have to see it again soon.

Jonathan Creek, Season 1: A really cool series from the UK -- not so much a whodunit as it is a how'd-he-do-that? show. Great chemistry between Creek and Maddy.

Police Squad, the Complete Series: For some reason, I never found the Naked Gun movies all that funny, but the short-lived TV show (only six episodes) that spawned it is absolutely insane. Worth adding to one's DVD library.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Saw this at the cinema. Not as good as the first one, but it ends on something of a cliffhanger, so we'll have to see what happens when No. 3 comes out in 2007.

Forbidden Planet: A classic SF movie, with a nice making-of documentary with much of the original cast.

I just saw the great film Casino.... 'house of the rising sun' was part of the soundtrack.... which reminded me about the TD DVD.

Just got "Flashpoint" in the post this morning from Amazon.

I wasn't even aware it had a region 2 release until last week!

Looking forward to seeing it again over the weekend.

I got this one new a few weeks ago from Amazon on region 2 DVD for a few pounds.... it's a great film and the music is perfect for it.

Don't get to see many films these days, although did see Pirates of the Caribbean 2 at the local 'flea-pit' - I quite enjoyed it, so looking forward to POTC 3!
On DVD - 1/ 2001: A Space Odyssey - this got its quarterly airing - it's my favorite film of all-time, so it is aired about every three months, just so I can 'chant' the 30-or-so minutes of dialogue.
2/ Near Dark - suberbly rendered modern-vampire theme (with of course a great soundtrack)
3/ Easy Rider - seen this so many times, but still great.
4/ The Wild Bunch - 'nuff said!
5/ Legend - just obtained the R1 special edition - why RS decided to use an inferior soundtrack (sorry Mr G) in the British release I will never know!!
6/ Lord of the Rings trilogy, although how anyone has the time to view all the extras I'll never know.
7/ Thief - caught this on TV late the other evening - the soundtrack turns a rather ordinary film into something extra-ordinary - thanks TD
