Intense listening : VFART is a very good release, its not 'of a piece' as it feels a bit disjointed, but overall its an excellent set...my favourites are Leviathan and ONIS (although I prefer the other version...)

BM raises his rating to 7.77/10

Still refusing to call this VF*RT.

It's Views OK.

Given it quite a few spins now and think it has true classic qualities.

I rate it as "quite a lot" out of 10.

By the way, I just saw that all 3 new releases are now available in the download section, they just don't appear on the first page of the shop.

Views from a red train is ideal travel music, in the vein of melrose/lily etc...but of an order of quality higher, much higher imho....perfect for those long commutes/travel I do....its an album that gets more addictive with each play....but I still find it a bit 'a compilation' of bits n pieces....nevermind Its still pretty damn enjoyable.

I have to say, that I find it some kind of boring for a studio release. not really new music, new style. more easy listening stuff, nothing that keeps in memory. the album is ok, but nothing that will be rembered as something special... I am a bit disappointed.

I also think that TD is a bit playing safe with VFART. In my opinion the CD gets much more attention-holding after deleting two or three filler tracks out of the playlist: I can do without "Passing All Signs", "Lord Of The Ants" & "Fire On The Mountain" ---> much better experience. :-)

With the exception of Jeanne D'Arc, TD are the kings of the 40 min - discs. See Virgin Years, and now Purple Diluvial shows it again. 8)

I agree with Michael66

but, perhaps, Views should be viewed as aggressive ambient

V-fart:Day Three

Fave tracks so far: Hunter Shot By Yellow Rabbit....classic Edgar guitar work. His best solo in a while. Its been a few years since i/we bought a TD album and knew that one track would feature Edgar on guitar and it would be a stand out moment. Well 'hunter' is that track.

One Night In Space....finger blistering guitar work by the very talented BB. The ep version is good but the V-Fart version is a rip roaring giant!

Not so sure tracks:
Leviathan-i like it but its peter gunn vs love on a real train!

Fire On A Mountain: just not sure bout it...maybe a few more listens.

Back in a few days....
Happy Listening.

I really rate Hunter Shot By Yellow Rabbit. I think it's set to become a classic

The introduction I at first found really irritating because I find synthesizing vocals irritating. But - the intro is just perfectly crafted, it gently builds, layer upon layer until that first guitar slide and suddenly it all makes sense.

Then the chord progression is just great - seems like the ol' drop and back three tones for a while but then it goes elsewhere and it's like a narrative which is perfect because if I have to describe EF's guitar style at it's best, I say it sounds like it's telling a tale; a voice describing , arguing , wooing. Ironic that I deslike EF's use of synth voices but I hear voices when he picks up a guitar

<sigh>

Just love being a TD fan.

After listening to RED TRAIN at least 10 times here's my rating:

Carmel Calif 9/10 (fantastic rhythms!)
Passing All Signs 8/10 (pure magic track! no doubt!!)
Leviathan 10/10 (coolest track!)
Hunter Shot By A Yellow Rabbit 10/10 (perfect imagination of a funny chase!)
Nutshell Awakening 10/10 (intellectual overflow of Stephen Hawking's - great interpretation of a genius!)
One Night In Space 10/10 (funky!)
Serpent Magique 10/10 (my favorite! ingenious subtle sound structures!)
Lord Of The Ants 10/10 (powerful and great guitar work, love it!)
Fire On The Mountain 8/10 (speedy spacy rhythms!)
Sound Of A Shell 9/10 (unheard sounds, smart structures - great way to close an album!)

PS: What do we expect more of a TD album? Enjoying it immensely!

Sorry, but this sleeve note is killing me: >>

HUNTER SHOT BY A YELLOW RABBIT

- song for all UK rabbits and foxes who are upset about royal charly.

:?:  charly?

Any translations, or is it so obvious?

That is for "Prince Charles", I guess. After that, he's called "green Charles"... that note is so funny !

i think the notes to 'Hunter Shot By Yellow Rabbit' refer to the snotty so'n'so's who despite probably obeying every law ever made, because thats how they were bought up in their 'do right' world, still think they have the right to break the law and hunt foxes despite it been illegal.
Rabbits? Foxes? Vermin? I find the hunters more despicable to look at with their self-rightesious smug grins and looking down on people from their horses wearing their red n black uniforms.

Ill be passing the gun to rabbit!
Go bunny, go! :-)
