Please note that I am writing the following lines about "Voices in the
net", its future, and copyright concerns on behalf of Michael Berling
and by his personal request.
Michael has decided to freeze the "Voices in the net" project due to
serious conditions that did and will not allow him to keep it online and
updated. This will probably be the case for at least several months.
There is a chance, however, that this online discography will be
continued some day, be it by Michael or by someone else in cooperation with him or
in his name.
Until a final decision is being made, Michael requests that VitN will
not be made available online, or published in any other form or media, and
definitively not to be modified in any way. Michael Berling has the
copyright on "Voices in the net" (design, concept, text) and he is not
willing to give this up just yet.
Michael has not made up his mind yet if he will allow hosting of the
"frozen" version of VitN in the meantime.
It will only make sense to continue Michaels efforts one day if this
will be done using his original concept. Any re-start or updating will not
make sense if there were duplicated versions around, probably on some
different level or with a concept not fitting into what Michael has designed. At this point, I can only appeal to you not to start any copying or branching activities if you want to preserve the chance that "Voices" will return as _THE_ discography and reliable TD data source one day.
Anything said here does, of course, not affect all those excellent (!)
discographies published by dozens of TD fans and collectors on various
private homepages. In contrary: It does make sense to continue those and also to refer to them especially for the time "Voices" will not be
available. "Voices" is not only a discography but also a data base, and
its design and content concept needs to be protected to enable any
authorized person to eventually continue it.
I ask and hope for your understanding to make it possible to preserve
Michaels work for the future, for the benefit of us, the TD collectors.
(For all those who don't know me, I am one of the authors of the "Voices
in
the dunes" discography book. I was behind transferring the book data and
rights to Michael at the initial point some ten years ago. But I have
not been involved in the realization of the "Voices in the net" project
itself.)
Interesting, if still cryptic. I suppose what is really needed at this time is a Wiki Dream. That would allow the entire fan base to pool their resources together and distribute the workload.

there already is a TD wiki...but just with basic info, but it is open to all to edit

The 'Rate Your Music' and 'Discogs' sites are quite good references of various releases out there. Not a patch on VITN of course.
