Okay - finally managed to listen to this today...

O.. M... G... :D :D :D

That title track is EASILY the best thing I've heard in ages. I'm not sure why, but I hear some of JS's Wuivend Reit in there.

Not sure about track 2's origins yet - need to give it another listen, but it was very familiar.

Sleeping Watches Snoring in Silence is just awesome. Very menacing. I particularly like the flute sound buried well down in the mix. this would make a great set closer.

Astoria gig and EP

Post by TangFanIRL »

Hello,

I just sent this to the Tadream list:

I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the gig last Friday and meeting fellow fans before and after.

I really like the Madcap album and it was great to see it debuted in
concert, despite what the moaners say.

At the end of the day seeing TD at a concert is a totally subjective
experience - you either really enjoy it and get into it or else you don't
get into it (for whatever reason.) and don't enjoy it, or else you are
somewhere in between. ;-)

The Astoria EP is great little EP, don't you agree?

Track 1 - The Sphinx Lightning rework is well done with nice guitar from
Edgar midway through.

Track 2 - Zen Garden meets Jan Hammer (20 seconds in!)?

Track 3 - Sounds like Thorsten's work - and catchy at that.

Some of us were lucky enough to meet Thorsten and Chris (the singer) after the gig back in the Jack Horner pub. Chris and Thorsten have worked
together on music for many years and are friendly guys to talk to. I've met Thorsten a few times by now and he really is a sound and very talented chap who enjoys talking to TD fans, which is great for us. He's also a whiz on the piano as I learned in Brandenburg 2006 after the show when we were chatting for a while and he asked me to show him some music from Tangram when I told him I had worked it out! I did, and then he played some - the guy is another Schmoelling or Haslinger on those keys, believe me! A great talent, and modest with it.

OK, back to lurk mode for me.

Conrad

PS: If anyone has a spare Astoria EP they'd like to trade, please email me
off-list. I can offer similar EPs such as the Tempodrome ('Metaphor' EP) or Jerome's 'Caffeine' CD single.

Hi Conrad - great to see you here, and sorry we didn't talk properly! The T-shirts were extremely smart - got to get a London one organised now methinks...

BTW- I can definitely hear some Wuivend Reit in the final track of the EP - albeit that it is now confirmed as an EF ditty :D
