Complimentary Fine Wine - TD concerts and official releases

Post by SequenceC »

Which TD concerts do you think nicely compliment official releases? They do not necessarily have to have the same type of sound , but could in your view compliment nicely as a package. You could think of a hypothetical situation in which the record label releases the album with the concert as a special box set.

For example, I'm sure Colin would choose Royal Albert Hall 1975 with Rubycon. Not only his favourite TD album and concert, but they both have quite a similar sound and compliment each other very nicely. RAH 1975 is a wonderful concert with good sound quality.

I find that Les Ponts de Cé May 20th 1973 compliments Atem very nicely. An ambient concert with lots of organs and a mysterious sound, although the sound recording isn't too good, the music is top notch.

Interesting question Ben. As you point out RAH 75 and Rubycon is a great match as is Ponts 73 and Atem album, will have to do a bit of listening to match some others in the 70s 8)

Croydon Fairfield Hall October 23rd 1975 goes very nicely with Ricochet (so presumably a concert Andy would like).

Also Montreal Place des Arts April 9th 1977 and Washington Lisner Auditorium April 4th 1977, excellent concerts for the mighty 1977 North American Tour.

For me the concert in Nottingham 1976 is still one of the best concerts of TD. Should like to see an official cd from that one.

 You're not a fan of the gig.

It's pretty good, but I prefer others from that era.

At the moment Les Ponts de Cé is my favourite.

And of course Berlin 1987 should deserve an official release. One of the best concerts they ever given.

Only a few concerts have some parts from Stratosfear, from memory for example, Brussels November 16th, 1976. Also Encore (although from 1977) also has part of the Stratosfear theme on.

I love Stratosfear's subtle sequencers, ranging from delicate to thundering bass.
