Thank you ...
It is an honor to be able to say hello here ... I've actually shied away from it for the longest time, as I, also a writer and published, am more concerned/worried about my inner vision than I am with the result of what someone will think of my poem.
I learned a long time ago that experience and love are two things that the inner body/soul loves to remember and appreciate. I can easily tell you that at one time I had the aforementioned musics on my turntable in order for me to write ... nowadays I don't need it ... as "I already have it" ... that inner feeling that defines you next line on a poem, or piece of music ... it really has nothing to do with anything else ... it's simply all about putting down on paper, or instrument, the inner movie running through your head ... and some of the music I listed above is the very best at it ... no ifs and buts.
But I'm not cynical ... I still jump, cry and what not when I hear Sandy Denny do "One more Chance" as if a soul was asking for mercy and another day ... or Peter Hammill do his contortions and expressions and still be able to come up with "Out of Water" ... or hear a new piece from TD and have the shivers and bumps ... which I just experienced on their website at home ... I don't even want to know the name of the piece so it doesn't spoil my "inner run" until I can get it all down on the paper ...
And there are times when this is fun to see on the stage. I got to see a fun duet once with Robert Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughn ... and while Stevie was really good, Robert Cray "hit it ... and hit it hard and right" ... and pretty much relegated Stevie to rhythm guitar on that show for 5 minutes ... it was great ... and you know what? The guy did not have such a hard ego that he had to come back with something strong ... he just made sure the song could continue ... and continue it did and then some ...
That is something that one can live for and appreciate. You have to be open enough to love that inner vision and be able to let it fly ... and music that does fly is the best for me ... lyrics is not enough, and they are not the defining point, since very few popular singers actually sing their "music" ... at least on the pop scales.
And that's the difference. We're talking more than just pop here ... this is inner music at its best ... just feel it. Just feel it baby ... just feel it!
