I have tried a new MO in respect of these purchases. This has been to be totally open and above board, save up the odd fiver and tenner (and more  ), discuss same with the Mrs and therefore no longer have to smuggle goods into the house :P

Worked a treat

I do the same thing, it's called my Slush Fund but it still seems to get spent on fridges, freezers and cookers.

Speaking of old hi-fi stuff............

Disastrous news...............

My extremely auld hifi amp is unwell. Bought it when I was a young lad must've been about 1978, my first real hi fi. Used it right up till this year in various setups as it gradually got demoted. Noisy pot disease, sick switches and suspected transistor malfunction type virus.

I am gutted. RIP Akai AM2250

Hi TD eye, Thanks for your response.

It will be mainly dust related and I may try some spray. I suspect other illnesses have also befallen my akai  . It is now on display on the bottom rack in me studio so I can look at it occasionally and admire its beauty

Never really seen the point of laser disc to be honest....

But a 50-inch plasma screen, yes. (I have a Samsung, not one of the better makes probably, but it was within my price-range and looks damned good to me )
