Thanks for posting this - I had not heard this programme before and it was very interesting.

I wonder how much TD used the Mellotron after the Cyclone album - the last, I think, which gave a full list of instruments. It is intriguing that the wonderful sound of this instrument has never been recreated in the digital era. Epsilon in Malaysian Pale still sounds fantastic to me today - I can remember so clearly hearing the opening few minutes back in '76 when I bought it and thinking that music will never be the same again - absolutely stunning.

True!

It certainly has a quality all its own - I remember in my youth listening to early TD not really understanding the gear but hearing the strings and flutes and thinking I hear guitars & pianos and there's synths but then there's these other sounds that sound like traditional instruments but off another planet.
