Michael Hoenig - Dracula 3000 (2004)

Post by Jon »

I bought this DVD for about £3, only to listen to the score by Hoenig. He hasn't written a score since, by the way. Maybe not so strange.

The film must be one of the worst ever made. The score wasn't particularly interesting either, ironically coming from one of the legends of electronic music in the 70s. Opening and closing credits were kind of strident symphonic stuff, although I'm quite sure it was electronic. Most of the score is typical rumbling sci-fi stuff with no themes, a pity because the composer showed on his 1987 album Xcept One that he was perfectly capable of writing melodic music. But maybe themes are not wanted these days.

One of the few times I noticed anything remotely interesting happening in the music, was when Hoenig suddenly sounded like Thomas Newman towards the end of the film.

Anyone who saw this film?
