LOOM - TREE HATES THE FOREST

Post by 32 years + counting »

There seems to have been a slightly muted reaction to this album. And maybe yes, album overall, but certain tracks are outstanding. CLOUDWALK is simply sublime (one of the most beautiful EM tracks I've heard in a very long time....can't get it off the player), GRAND SOLAR MINIMUM is brilliantly arranged and sound designed, and TACHYCARDIA brings the absolute house down. I'm hugely looking forward to all future LOOM releases. For my taste I'd like it if they got much more in your face!

Tachycardia is my least favorite track.

I have seen that the album has received some only so-so reviews, calling it too "mellow". I can't say I agree.
I agree on this. Superb album. Only strange thing is the use of the traditional Irish tune in one of the tracks. That tune I only associate with the beautiful Simple Minds song Belfast Child. On an electronic instrumental album it sounds a bit out of place.
Well, I think the Emerald Suite was nice. Mixing traditional irish music with electronic music is an interesting thing IMO, remember TD's great Lake Of Pontchartrain from Madcap's Flaming Duty.

Emerald Suite : The original Irish song is called She Moved Through The Fair. Van Morrison & The Chieftains do a half decent version on their 'Irish Heartbeat' album

Like others, I'm struggling a bit with The Tree Hates The Forest. Scored was basically a series of greatest hits of TD, Jerome and Johannes whereas the new album, whilst interesting, does not grab me like Scored. Lets hope that the boys are now working on new material.
