Just listened to some of it, I am afraid I turned it off after about 25 mins. I might have liked it years ago but it doesn`t really do anything for me at this time.

that can be a problem with music if you don't hit it at the right time, well, sometimes anyway. I still think is a very good album though

it's what it's all about. Without that choice chances are we'd all be Baycity Rollers, Frankie Goes to Hollywood or Take That fans (depending on the decade you personally got in to TD) ;)

Speaking of Take That, when I first watched this ghastly video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3pHnqmw9QRM , the intro synth reminded me of the opening of Silver Scale.

Jacob runs for eternal cover

I was being kind that nobody would get into TD during the last few years, judging by the 40 year old blokes that turn up to their gigs ;) or this there a whole seperate area at TD gigs for 18 year olds in a Mosh Pit?

Mosh Pit? I know what that is - there's a Wiki article on it. But I wouldn't say we were all fogies (or dragged along by one)

It's probably difficult for some new, young listeners to appreciate 70s electronic music like 'Departure From The Northern Wasteland', which was made before fully polyphonic programmable synthesizers and digital equipment was around.

To appreciate Hoenig, especially 'DFTNW', it helps if you're into rhythm patterns. One of Hoenig's skills is integrating sequencer patterns of different time signatures (something that TD have rarely done in the same way, e.g. a 15 step pattern combined with a 16 step pattern). There's a strong influence of minimalist composers like Philip Glass and Steve Reich in Hoenig's work.

One of the most sublime parts on 'DFTNW' is towards the end of the title track when two synchronized rhythms gradually drift apart and then move back in sync again. Wonderful.

And listen to the meticulously structured lead solo on 'Hanging Garden Transfer' - pure jazz, such expression.
