Wolfgang Duren

Post by lemonstar »

I used to get copies of 2 (maybe 3) magazines on Electronic Music - Eurock and Interface (I think - I probably have them stashed away with piles of NME's in my parents house). I tracked down a lot of the releases based on reviews in these mags. I was lucky enough to live near to Lotus Records in Hanley and Stafford (UK) where Andy Garibaldi used to keep a huge and ever shifting stock of European rock and electronica. (anyone know what happened to him or the lovely German 'Lizabeth with the lilac specs?)

I bought Wolfgang Durens album Eyeless Dreams based on the review which I *think* described WD as either a sound engineer or a roadie for TD. (Maybe Andy told me that himself) Does anyone know more about his relationship to the band and when he worked withthem?

Fortunately the entire album of very classy Tangy cold and glassy electronic music can be found here:-

Welcome to the forum, Neil

Yes, "Eyeless Dreams" is a lovely album - I'm fortunate to own the WPL vinyl release

where are they now?

Andy went on to work for Compact Disc Services in Dundee, although I've been told he's recently left them. He's still active in promoting new music in the Dundee area*, including the forthcoming Electronica thingy with Ian Boddy (I think, as it isn't my type of thing I didn't make a note of who was playing).

Wolfgang together with wolfgang Palm who used designed synths for TD (and a few others) from about the mid 70's, under the company name of PPG (er....Product of the Palm studio Germany I seem to remember...anybody like to correct me?), afterwards they went on to found Waldorf (Waldorf Electronics GmbH) in 1988, designing several synths.

Wolfgang's album was reviewed in E&MM:

*some months ago Andy kindly let me use ALL of the reviews he did for CDS, or at least the ones that covered TD, KS and Pete Namlook (& the FAX label). If you click on the Abstract Projection link (below) you'll see some of his reviews, plus there should be links at the bottom of each review to his myspace page and his music promotion site.

Sorry to thread necro and all, but I have just now discovered Dueren's album, and it is AWESOME! I was rather hoping he'd dome more than the one album, but sadly, this was not to be.

I met Wolfgang when he was working for TD on the 1980 tour during the set up at Ipswich Gaumont. He very kindly showed me around the equipment, gave me some PPG literature and told me about 'Eyeless Dreams', which I bought.
