musicbox intro in Frankfurt

Post by redziller »

"What was that all about then?" I ask myself listening again to a great gig. This is what occurs to me...

My gut feeling is that it won't bear detailed examination - that's not the surrealist way so broadly we have a classic tune which expresses fondness for past times and regret (perhaps a bit strong) about past times played on a mechanical device.

I see it as a statement from EF saying - I still believe in what some fans regard as the classic olde stuff, and I'm still doing it, but while the process is always changing, the spirit of TD remains core.

We recognise the tune whether delivered by the fab four in vivo or on wind up gizmo and the tune conveys meaning. A different experience, of course, but if this was a statement then it is the meaning that's important.

And that's the genius - if we'd been given a TD cover of Yesterday that's all we would take it for. The presentation asks us to focus on the meaning of the song and is also part of the message.

Pseud's corner awaits !!

For my money the Yesterday start to the Frankfurt show was just a bit of fun and maybe a gentle nod to the past. It also hinted that machines have been used to make music far longer than we often give credit for.

At the time it seemed quite natural and very nice way to open the show.

The show itself was a mixture of old, new and future music and, although the music wasn't played in chronological order, there was a feeling of covering most musical periods, without it being a Greatest Hits package.

Didn't Edgar say something about past, present and future in his closing speech?

when Linda fired up the music box, I wondered, then decided that this was Edgar telling 'me' that this was going to be the last of the greatest hits compilation shows, the future was coming and is of the now.

eindhoven is showcasing new unheard music, loreley too, and this autumn : more new musique

Perhaps I read too much into this but after careful spectrographic analysis of the inverse fourier transform of the WAV, I can reveal there was a hidden message meant for BM ears only. It reads: plinka-plink. plinka-plinka-plinka plinka-plink...
