Sorcerer film to be remastered, rereleased on DVD

Post by rotwang »

Hey, everyone,

It's been a few years, but I'm back on the forum. (Had a few nasty experiences with computer viruses that scared me away from the Internet for a while, along with a period of unemployment -- ouch!)

If this topic has been posted elsewhere, forgive me, but I read a couple of months ago that director William Friedkin is currently at work remastering his film "Sorcerer" with the intent of releasing it on DVD (and Blu-Ray, too, I believe) later this year. The completed reworked film is supposed to have its world premiere Aug. 29 at a film festival in (I think) Vienna. Don't know what bonus features it might have, but it would be cool to hear Friedkin remarking about hiring TD to score the film and his impressions of their resultant compositions.

I've been listening to the "Sorcerer" score lately to whet my appetite for the movie's rerelease on DVD. Any thoughts?

Here is a very interesting and recent master class : William Friedkin talked about Sorcerer at the "Cinémathèque de Paris", just a few days ago !

Oh yes, I was thinking and hoping this might be happening.

Seriously can't wait to watch this again after 30+ years since I saw it on UK steam driven TV. Listening to the album again last week was superb. Be great hearing how the music fits into the film. In Digital surround sound too I hope  8) 8) 8)

"Warner Bros is planning to release Sorcerer on Blu-ray in 2014 (...) Street date for the Blu-ray release is April 14th."
That is good news indeed, let's hope that this BD will be released in all regioncodes at the same time.
Sorcerer is a great movie, as well as Le Salaire de la Peur (The Wages of Fear), the French predecessor from 1953 (originally in black/white) with Yves Montand. Both are examples of thrilling, timeless movies. I have seen both versions several times (VHS ...), now waiting for Sorcerer (and it's music!) on BD, can't wait ...

Which is "Lohn der Angst" in German 8) I've seen it on DVD and was a bit disappointed. It's not by far as thrilling as Sorcerer, IMO.
