After much thought, I've come to the conclusion that Tangerine Dream are at their best without Jerome Froese, but by the same token, Jerome Froese is at his best without Tangerine Dream.

Madcap's Flaming Duty beats the hell out of anything TD have done since Jerome joined (tho' Mars Polaris and the first two Divine Comedy albums were nothing to sneeze at), but then, so does Neptunes.

Oh well. Just idle ramblings at a stupid hour of the morning...

*grin*

well....I'd agree they've both recently done some fantastic stuff, and yes Neptunes is one hell of an album. We've seen in the past that members joining or leaving creates an opportunity for all sides to re-access and come back to the TD-project a fresh.

If you're in any doubt to Jerome's musical worth whilst in TD, then have a look at the PDF file over at Moonpop...it gives all his composition credits.

from memory there's about 90 tracks worth

I think Thorsten is more attuned to the TD sound than Jerome was, Jerome brought his own style and was dominant with it. but I think Thorsten is actively trying to incorporate things from TDs past, specific chord changes/instruments etc as if he is making a real effort to merge with the long standing TD sound rather than changing it.

Well he's more into Prog stuff, so perhaps that gives him a more of a 70's and 80's influence?

well it makes you wonder which way they'll go, doesn't look like they'll be a repeat of the Irish tune, so perhaps the vocals have been put to bed. Edgar says he hasn't ruled out going back to a more experimental style (whatever the heck that means these days).
