I was actually listening to this CD when I saw this topic, so I thought I should post about it. Both parts of SOTW have been favorites for a long time. I learned the piano intro to Part 2 once upon a time and can still mostly play it, even though my keyboard skills have diminished somewhat from rust...

Making the ö and ü sounds by themselves does make one sound rather odd. But that's only because we don't have any equivalent to them in English. If you learn a little bit of the lingo (much of which I've regrettably lapsed with), you begin not to notice it. A close approximation of the ö without muc...

The Police were fine. I still like "Ghost in the Machine" and "Synchronicity" quite a lot. Sting's solo work...not so much. I'm more a fan of the Summers/Robert Fripp (of King Crimson) collaborations "I Advance Masked" and "Bewitched." As for the tour pairing,...

Well, I wasn't born until 1973, so I missed out on those golden years, as my musical tastes at age 2 in '75 weren't quite developed enough yet for Rubycon. :) I had always been a fan of electronic music going back to seeing the scientist Carl Sagan's TV series "Cosmos," which featured some...

I'm something of a pronunciation stickler myself (it comes from my line of work in spoken voice recording). Plus I took German years ago in school. The sound for ö (or "oe") is made by forming your mouth to say an "oh" sound, but instead, saying "ee". It takes a bit of ...

Thule = THOO - lee or TOO - lee.

Ultima Thule
1. (italics) Latin. the highest degree attainable.
2. the farthest point; the limit of any journey.
3. the point believed by the ancients to be farthest north.
Also called Thule.

I'm a regular lexicographer. Or something.

According to an old tape I have of an interview with Edgar and Chris in England after Poland was released, Barbakane is BAR - buh - cane. Edgar Froese is kind of like Fruh - zuh. It's really spelled Fröse and gets that umlauted sound to the "o." Same with Schmoelling. Wahn is Vahn. Atem is...

Re: Steve Jolliffe....more than vocals

Steve's done some great stuff post-TD. His latest two, Deep Down Far and Space, are particularly good. As a young TD fan just getting into the band around '88 or so, Cyclone was among a group of albums I picked up all at the same time from a few different eras (I know Electronic Meditation and Atem ...
