well, I think you should add 'some' before the fans bit Peter ;). I used to know a girl and the only TD album she liked (and she totally loved it!) was TOT. No I don't think I need to add the word 'some' Andy. Have a look at the the poll on this forum which invites members to name their favourite f...

Ironic that of the 100+ albums TD have made, the two biggest sellers are two that don't rate very highly amongst fans. A bit like if Pink Floyd's two biggest selling albums were 'More' and 'Obscured by Clouds'. It must have been the U.S. fad for 'New Age' in the 90s that elevated 'Tyranny of Beauty'...

Not completely true Peter, actually TD's record sales were very healthy after Franke left. Optical Race selling 100,000 in the States alone, with Turn of the Tides and Dream Mixes selling almost if not more copies than that. I seem to remember Martin K stating on tadream that Tyranny of Beauty and ...

they've never made any grand gestures or pulled any stunts to get themselves recognised by the populace. Some might say that playing in cathedrals and having the record for loudest gig ever were stunts. If so, they worked! Remember that from the mid 70s to the mid 80s TD were very popular (in the U...

Re: That 'famous' FM-Sound

Hi everyone, once again I have a question. This time about that infamous FM-Sound that TD are using since approx. 1986. It has a very percussive, but yet melodical feel to it. Kinda like a bell :D Most notably it can be heard on Ride on the Ray, Marakesh, Sun Gate, Electric Lion and many others of ...

Anyone else noticed the shout from the audience of "Play your synthesizers" just before 'Dominion' on the vinyl 'Logos'? It's edited out on the CD.

Re: Sound samples used by TD

...just as TD has to worry about people using their music, they will have to worry about using other artists music... I'm talking about a soundsample used on the Ricochet album. It's in part 2 at about the 14 minute mark: there are some hammering, metallic sounds, just before the mellotron flute in...

'A Map of the World' is my joint top favourite album of all time, even though it's not typical of Metheny's work, being closer to classical than jazz.

I've been using Spotify for about six months. I've been getting glitches in the streaming which have got worse lately. I don't have any such problems with other streaming audio sources, so my question is does anyone else have this problem with Spotify?

Good debate here. Excellent posts from Michael66. I also agree with Andy (24db) about ‘The Model’ being a freak hit as it was a B-side. Many years earlier ‘Autobahn’ had been a hit – but not because it was pop or danceable, but I suggest, because it was seen as a jokey novelty record (there always h...

For me the most emotional parts of TD's music are often the sad, symphonic, orchestral oriented parts. Examples:- First and last minutes of Rubycon, end of Tangram Set 1 and start of Set 2, the chords to Church Theme/Silver Scale, Unicorn Theme, the last few minutes of Alchemy of the Heart. But noth...

It was worse for those of us who bought the releases in chronological order!
